Maretail-Seedling Identification

Marestails is one weed species there has been a lot of concern about resistance. In the southern part of Ohio it can be an especially troublesome weed with biotype that are resistant to both ALS and glyphosate. Resistant weeds to one or both products are becoming more prevalent here in NW Ohio. The weed is also complicated in that it can germinate in both the fall and spring. Since several different sizes can exist in the field identification can sometimes be difficult. Below are marestail in different seedling stages from 1.5 to 6 inches in plant width.
